Will We Even Have Summer This Year?

Even if we do, it may be our last one for a while.

Bitterly cold in Melbourne. Was supposed to start warming up two months ago.

We had surprise hail in the middle of the afternoon and when it stopped the temperature plunged again really sharply. I'm in my study now and my fingers and toes are numb from cold. We've been trying to keep the heater off but this is ridiculous.

If you read Vault-Co you already knew this was coming.

In a t-shirt and shorts. Really should put on longsleeves in this weather.

What kind of power source do you plan to use in your vault?

I have been experimenting with LED AA powered Christmas lights for general emergency use. AA powered LED lanterns, AA powered LED headlamps, AA powered radios, etc...

Using our vehicles each with more than half a tank of fuel, coupled with a small inverter, multi-trip outlets, and 30 minute battery chargers... We have lights and communications for months. Good for shorter term emergencies and off grid living. But I am looking for something more for lifetime shelter use...

What would the result me of taking a single shot shotgun... wrapping the barrel with copper wire and firing a strong magnet out of it? Or would the copper wire have to be coiled at the end of the barrel and slinging the magnet through the center?

@ Adam Timberman : I think the barrel would skew the results, but keep trying ! (perhaps using plastic coating around the magnet).

That said, they manufacture insect-size and mosquito-size drones now (they are not controlled by a human but by a computer)

I guess the assembly line for them will churn them out in the millions, so all they have to do is wait that you run out of EMP slugs.

Remember also that since you and I posted these ideas on the internet, for all eternity this information will be available for those drone-piloting computers ; we are thus already a much more probable target for them that the average brain-dead Facebook user.

Also, Tex : imagine one of these critters passing through the filter grid and burrowing/melting into your shelter's HEPA filter, just a tiny hole to get through :)

If they have access to this site and its comments then they also have access to the 5,000 plus book orders I have placed over the past twenty years. And all the gear and tools I have ordered online. That is a big reason why I do as much cash purchases as possible. Yard sales, second hand stores, etc.

I guess the trick will be.... NOT being where they think I will be when things go bad in a major way.

Until then.. every survival related idea that gets posted... will hopefully help keep someone safe... or stimulate others to create more survival ideas or improve the ones shared.

I like rice and beans. Especially mixed with dehydrated or freeze dried veggies.
Being from a farm family... I know where there are millions of pounds of corn and hundreds of thousands of pounds of beef available at any given time. "A Country Boy Can Survive"... awesome song, awesome life motto.

They make electric insect killers. We have a big one on the home farm. Bug zappers. Perhaps one of those over the air intake would keep mosquito drones out...
