Sucks When Your Religion Is Debunked

The most devout of secularists is on the back foot and waffling nowadays. This media shill is desperately backpedaling to warn people not to jump to conclusions. It's too late for that. They have fallen behind the conversation.

No reasonable person with the capacity for objective thinking would attempt to make the case there is no supreme being in light of what we now know about the universe. Only the most zealous radical humanists continue to cling to such pagan notions.

Of course, this in no way implies for an instant that any of the world's religions have it right. That's something that men will always have to take on faith.

Here's what we do know:

1. There is a supreme being of some kind. All we can say for certain is that whatever it is, it seems to like us quite a bit. It has given us a universe amicable to our existence.

2. It appears that in "liking" us that it may have some anthromorphic qualities we are not projecting onto it. It seems capable of giving a damn and is capable of "like" as opposed to the complete indifference one would expect of a creature so superior we cannot comprehend it.

3. It appears to be quite outside the flow of time altogether, leading one to suspect that time itself is just another convenience it has created for us as part of the cosmic terrarium it has put together for us to exist in. This is another tipoff that whatever that thing is up there, it's basically inherently nice and generous. It isn't Nyarlathotep or Cthulu. It is something very abundant in mercy.

I think "classical" Christianity has it right. "Orthodoxy" if you will. If you honestly put all other religions on a trial of valor you will see none of them make sense or actually work for nesting a civilization like the west knew.

Seeing this new and suprising deist rant, coupled with the conflicting gnostic unitarian and arian rants of the past you should probably make up your mind about what you actually believe in. At least if you are going to keep discussing religion in your posts and don't want to confuse your readers.

Are you a Calvinist? A Gnostic heretic? A Deist? An agnostic that sees religion as a vital aspect of human survival? A closet atheist? Do you actually believe that the new testament narrative is literal and historical? That Christ was God incarnate and was crucified to reedem our sins? That he rose from his tomb and ascended into heaven? That the soul is immortal and is judged after death? Do you accept the Nicene Creed? The concept of the Holy Trinity?

I don't want to offend you or to start another silly and pointless discussion on religious dogma and organized religion. I'm just genuinely curious to know what on earth you actually believe in when it comes to religion. Isn't it fair for a regular reader to ask that?

Come on Tex, you can do it. Use the word "love".

Dave, you need to go slowly. First let them absorb the "like" bit, then they will eventually figure out that there is more involved there than just "like." :) Let them draw their own conclusions.

I see the four arms of the carbon atom as an expression of love, but others might not stumble upon that idea instantly.

yeah the Sec-Humanist Strut is about over, tho their incredible arrogance will die hard... and one soul at a time

the Enlightenment proved quite a darkling beestie, pretty black lies but precious little 'light'

heh

Christ is real, so's his Dad, but you are so right, the peeps cant even handle 'like' -- it Offends them that their Wonderful Selves might not the the summa of the universe

acknowledging that the God who created us also loves us would be too much for their advanced, evolved, ever so korrect konsciousness ... would only drive them deeper into solipsism and denial

sic 'em TA

Nothing comes from nothing and nothing leads to nothing.

The Supreme Being/First Cause/Prime Mover/Universal Mind is all that has ever existed or ever will exist. Everything else is merely His reflection; "created in His image".

John 1:4-5 "In in Him was life, And the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it."

The Light shines even in those who do not believe the Light exists; those who would rather dwell in the darkness and ignorance of nihilism. It is a testament to just how much freedom of thought the Creator has given us.
