Vault-Co Thought For The Day

Two different great thinkers, same idea.

'The moment we begin to fear the opinions of others and hesitate to tell the truth that is in us, and from motives of policy are silent when we should speak, the divine floods of light and life no longer flow into our souls.'

- Elizabeth Cady Stanton

'There is a divine light in the human heart and it isn't put there by the church or by a preacher. It shines out when we tell the truth and only the truth. Not what others want to hear from us to appease their egos or sense of security.'

- Frank Zappa

Woot, you just made my day with the zappa quote Tex :)
how many zappa albums do you have, be honest ;)

'In the fight between you and the world, always back the world' - from a guy who sued every vitzim record label he dealt with and won :)

I used to have three albums when I lived in New York, I sold them all when we moved to Australia. Stupid. If I had known what they would be worth someday.

I also once had the Beatles Board Game in the box unopened and Spider Woman #1. :)

Zappa was a very bright guy.

Speaking of collectibles, I notice many classic computer games from the 1980s selling for hundreds of dollars on Ebay. I once had the first 5 Ultima games for the Apple II with all of the packaging and documentation. These are worth a mint now, but of course I stupidly gave them away when I upgraded to a PC. Wintel PCs are boring, which I suspect is the reason why retrogaming was so popular for a while.

I tossed out my VHS collection last year when I couldn't even give it away to charity. I imagine that VHS tapes will become valuable collectibles some day, only because very few people have held on to them.

Rudolf Steiner has expressed the same idea. Here is one quotation:

"If I think or say anything that does not conform with reality, I destroy something in my spiritual organ, even though I believe my intention to be entirely good. It is the same as when a child burns itself by putting its hand into the fire, even though this was done all unknowingly."

Here's a quote from Lewis Mumford, another great thinker. Just a small paragraph that contains everything you need to know about the modern world:

"With this new 'megatechnics' the dominant minority will create a uniform, all-enveloping, super-planetary structure, designed for automatic operation. Instead of functioning actively as an autonomous personality, man will become a passive, purposeless, machine-conditioned animal whose proper functions, as technicians now interpret man's role, will either be fed into the machine or strictly limited and controlled for the benefit of de-personalized, collective organizations."
