They will be made extremely smart because technological messianism will use for one more time the age old bait of "utopia" to the sheeple that these super-intelligent machines will solve all the problems and lead humanity to an age of peace and prosperity. Attempts to bring utopia to the world have the bad habit of ending in oceans of blood. The only difference this time is that they will have the means necessary to kill you from as far as possible and not having to endure the stench of your blood or the sight of your dead body. They might even provide the machines with a conscience to transfer any - unlikely yet undesirable - complications of guilt just in case.
