Gun Control Laws = Dead Law Abiding People

Criminals are greatly emboldened to the point of mania when they know there is no danger of the other guy shooting back. Worrying about getting arrested for doing things against the law is what law abiding people worry about, not criminals.

The only strong deterrent to man's brutal and savage nature is the threat that other people can hurt you back as easily as you can hurt them. In market terms, potential risks provide a very strong penalty against certain kinds of behaviour and force market players to think more carefully about their actions. Where there is no penalty the ravening wolves that are hatched from the human gene pool feel no restrictions on acting on their impulses.

Just like in Britain, incidents are increasing daily in this vein despite best efforts of the idiots in goverment to spin them or cover them up. They will escalate until eventually there is a state of anarchy where formerly honest men kept civilization through arms.

After they allowed everyone in Florida to carry guns with them on the street, the homicide rate in Florida dropped 36%, the firearm homicide rate dropped 37%, and the handgun homicide rate dropped 41%.

Actually, it seems that the states in the US that restrict guns more, end up having higher crime rates.
For instance, when Washington DC put a ban on all guns, the homicide rate [in DC] rose 200%. Further on DC, their murder rate is right now is 69 per 100,000, with their strict gun control. In Indianapolis (no gun control), their murder rate is 9 per 100,000... I'm kind of seeing a patten here!
In a slightly foreign area for me, Australians were forced to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by their own government, a program costing Australian taxpayers more than $500 million dollars.
Here are the results after the first year:
Australia-wide, homicides went up 3.2%
Australia-wide, assaults went up 8.6%
Australia-wide, armed (yes, "armed"!) robberies are up 44%!!!
In the state of Victoria alone, homicides with firearms are now up 300%!!!

You're correct, while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did not, and criminals still possess their guns!
While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steady decrease in armed robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically upward in only 12 months!
Now the criminals now are guaranteed that their prey is unarmed.
As for something to think about too...
In WWII, Fleet Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto (the Japanese admiral that organized and led the Pearl Harbor attack) was also asked to plan an invasion of the US West Coast.
His answer, to Japan that the it was impossible, because when landing in America, "there would be a rifleman behind every blade of grass."
The fact that the US citizens are armed has saved us, thanks to the "riflemen behind every blade of grass".
